Underground

So this weekend, my world was rocked to the very core. You see, I knew there were TWO very different Sonic cartoons from the early 90’s (Adventures of Sonic the Hedgehog and just Sonic the Hedgehog). I watched them, they were cool, whatever. But I didn’t know that before the turn of the century, a third series emerged that completed the prophecy and began to sink the Sonic franchise into an age of darkness which it has yet to emerge from. And this third cartoon series was called Sonic Underground. And the intro song and animation is bonkers. You must witness it!

Trigger warning: Sonic material.

Labor Day really does a number on my internal clock! Feels like we’re updating on a Monday, but nay, tis the Day of Tues, which means new Time Cheetah. Get it!

Just a Bunch of Brothers Being Brothers

We had an official Time Cheetah Team lunch with our artists, Matt and Mike Cossin, yesterday to talk about the crazy success of Time Cheetah, the hottest new webcomic on the internet. Oh sure, we go over schedules and deadlines and human resource complaints, but we mostly just high five each other on how great we are.

The topic changed to domestic matters as Mike started to complain about how Matt had been constantly using Mike's tablet. Matt defended himself by saying his own tablet was broken, and his own tasks were far more more important. Soon, they were throwing a barrage of insults and french fries at each other.

This scenario actually came to me as a great relief. Me and my brother, Carlos, are so in tune to each other that we often actually finish each other's sentences. And yet, that very morning, I had felt a great fury come over me as I saw my brother drop crumbs all over the kitchen counter. Again.

Never forget the great universal truth: no matter how deep a connection you have with your brother, you are, at the end of the day, always on the edge of stabbing them with a spork.

Enjoy the new Time Cheetah page today! Already our clever hero is improvising with the tools at his disposal!

VAN JOHNSON

Amazon’s new Pilot Season program released my favorite 30-minute anything of the summer: Jean Claude Van Johnson. It stars Jean Claude Van Damme (from Bloodsport and Timecop and my dreams), it’s directed by the guy who directed Keanu (and hundreds of sketches on Key & Peele), it’s a comedy/action story that’s funny AND actually understands action movie tropes and it is… Just. So. Perfect. It’s one of those things that makes you happy, angry, and thrilled all at once: happy that it even exists, angry that it does something that you’ve thought of doing and just nails it completely from the get-go, and thrilled that there could be even more of it! It’s 30 minutes, it’s free, it’s on Amazon. Go watch it!

Today’s Time Cheetah touches on something that will come up again and again: Carl is an idiot.
Well, also: pay attention to stupid little details (after you read today's page, head back to Page 10 to see what I mean), they start paying off as the story goes on!

Don't Think About It Too Much

Don't Think Twice is a movie written and directed by comedian Mike Birbiglia about an improv group and what happens when one of the members advances his career to the next level. I like Mr. Birbiglia's comedy (check his specials on Netflix!), I'm taking improv classes while my brother is in an improv team, and reviews have been good; sounds like a slam dunk solo viewing experience, right?

What I expected: Wacky hijinks, beginner's improv cringe moments, "Funny Guest Star?!", and comedy(love?) conquers all in the end.

What  I got: The fragility of friendships, tangling with defining failure, "Funny Guest Star?!", and how life marches on.

It's an excellent film with a lot of great jokes, but make sure you're in a good place when you watch it. You know what won't put you through an emotional roller coaster? The new Time Cheetah Page! Ah sweet comfort.
