Neuroscience Convention

As my brother stated in his last post, shit is about to get stupid crazy in Time Cheetah. As such, I'd like to this last moment of quiet to talk about temping at the 2016 Neuroscience Convention. 

What does a Neuroscience Convention even look like? Glad you asked. Here are the stray thoughts:

- Half of the exhibition hall was just scientists hanging out in front of large poster boards, explaining their research. Sometimes there's a crowd and you get to see like minds share ideas right in front of you, other times they're alone and you're reminded of the cold darkness in this universe.

- Neuroscientists are a calm bunch so there were no disturbances but that didn't mean they didn't party. Lotsa hangovers and lotsa outfits that were not meant for just science ifyouknowwhatimean. 

- Nothing is better than freaking out a Japanese person by speaking to them in Japanese, out of nowhere, with perfect pronunciation. Every 'OH!' face extended my life by month.

- At the end of the day, A LOT of the research is about some shit they did to rats.

Face An Ass Kicking!

While big news events have taken place over the last week (well, over the last year, really), Time Cheetah quietly reached a small but important milestone: we’ve got 100 Facebook likes! From all of you! A few months ago, we expected a few friends and family to take a look, but have been so pleasantly surprised at the love and support this dumb ol’ webcomic’s received. I know stuff like this is pretty small potatoes, but it means a lot to us. A very sincere thank you to everyone that’s been reading, sharing, and enjoying Time Cheetah!

You guys seen Arrival yet? It’s good, y’all. Like, solid acting, deliberate pacing, good writing, excellent cinematography and directorial choices, great editing, fantastic music, whole package sort of good. I don’t wanna get spoiler-y, but let’s just say that as a guy who writes a comic that involves time travel, I extra loved it by the end. Watch it, for sure.

So, let me just say this about today’s page: once we had this final Stalin Island script written up, the second issue neatly divided into two parts. The first half is everything leading up to and ending with Stalin Roulette. The second half starts with this page. And from this point on, everything gets stupid crazy. I seriously cannot wait for everyone to see what happens in the next few weeks. Get reading and get psyched for Time Cheetah!

Stalin Roulette

Stalin Roulette, a game so stupid only my brother could come up with it.

As Carlos has mentioned before, Stalin Island went through many, many rewrites and this sequence had the good luck of being one our favorites (sorry savage cosmonauts). But it didn't survive unchanged!

For one, it used to happen in it's entirety in Part 1, but we needed the space. Then it was the cliff hanger before Part 2, but it didn't work and delayed Bolshevik's introduction too much. THEN it was changed thematically from a sort of 'Pass Stalin's test of wits!' to Cheetah proving his worth and friendship to Rodriguez. THEN we added henchmen for Cheetah to unload on, because before he just shoot all six bullets into the air!

Writing is hard, guys. But in the end, I don't think anything contributed as much as the stunning first panel on this page from our artist, Matt Cossin. Where we had to get out of our way and simplify, he elevated our stupid idea to greatness.

This is quite an important day in these United States: Election Day!

All I’ve got today is just a simple, small request: if you are registered to vote in the USA, please do so. Whichever way you vote, on a president or senator, a proposition or a school board member, it’s important that you take the time and participate. Democratic elections and the peaceful transfer of power are, straight up, an amazing thing. We’ve had it for a short time (in it’s current incarnation, as far as human history goes) and who knows how long we’ll have it (again, as far as human history goes). Don’t take it for granted! Vote!
